10 Points

Congratulations, Dave! Morpheus and Neo from The Matrix. This was a hard one. Way to go!

These new ones have been more cryptic. The reason is because at first I was experimenting with your ability to recognize a specific face based solely on one feature. Now I’m testing your subconscious mind. In the last three of these, people have made what to them seemed like total guesses. But those guesses turned out to be right… so how does that work? There are hundreds of thousands of movies to choose from. Is it really just random chance that you decided to guess what you did?

Round 2 – More of the image has been revealed. This is the max amount of the image you get for this one. Next will be an audio hint.

Guess the name of the person represented in the movie still above. You get 5 points for the name of the person, 3 points for the name of the character, and 2 points for the name of the movie. Over time more of the picture will be revealed, and if you still can’t guess it, I’ll add an audio hint. Good luck!

There are two people represented in this image. Guess the name and character of the second person for a five point bonus!

Answer: Daniel Day Lewis as Nathaniel in Last of the Mohicans. Don’t know how you guessed it so fast, but I’ll give you the full ten points, even though you didn’t guess the character name. Nice job, Daniel.

Why 10 Points?

This is the last visual hint! If nobody guesses it by tomorrow, I’ll give you an audio hint.

If you’ve been following this blog at all, you’re probably familiar with the 10 points contests I’ve been doing. I post part of an image and award points to whoever correctly guesses the identity of the person the image represents. But what made me start this contest in the first place?

I don’t know how the idea occurred to me, but I guess it was curiosity. I started thinking about the way we remember people’s faces, and I wondered if someone could be identified by just the curvature of an eyelid or the shape of a chin, etc.

Apparently, the answer is yes. Sometimes it takes a while, but I can’t believe how many people guess correctly on the first try. I mean, I’m not even showing anything more than part one eye in some cases! How do we do that? Is it just a result of the media? Is it that we’re so used to seeing close ups of movie stars that we can identify them based on minute portions of their features? Or is it that the human mind is so fantastic that it can actually notice the difference in someone’s skin tone and assign that difference to a specific individual?

Either way, I’m glad I started the contests, because they’re really fun. As a special celebration of the contests, I’m awarding double points for whoever guesses this post’s image! You get 10 points for the name of the person, 6 points for the character name, and 4 points for the movie name. Over time more of the picture will be revealed, and if you still can’t guess it, I’ll add an audio hint. Good luck!

10 Points

Orlando Bloom… looking quite gay, I might add. Congratulations, Daniel.

Sorry this took so long, my internet was down for a while today.

Guess the person represented in the image above. This is not a movie still, so the full 10 points goes to whoever guesses the person’s name. Over time more of the picture will be revealed, and if people still can’t guess it, I’ll add an audio hint.

10 Points

I’m changing the format of the 10 Points contests so that I can still change the header between articles. Make a guess about the image displayed above. You get 5 points for the person’s name, 3 points for the character, and 2 points for the movie. As time goes by, more of the picture will be revealed, and new audio hints will be given.

This is an easy one, especially after you listen to the audio: 10 Points Hint June 5
